BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Two lives were taken in a fiery crash Tuesday morning, a father and his 3-year-old baby boy. The crash involved a Chevrolet Silverado and an unknown vehicle.
“You have two individuals that lost their lives,” said Baton Rouge Police Department spokesperson Lt. Don Coppola.
The crash happened on I-110 south. The father and son, along with a 41-year-old female, were traveling in the Silverado Tuesday morning around 5:50 a.m.
According to the EBR Coroner, the victims were identified as 48-year-old Christopher Fisher and his 3-year-old son Christopher Fisher Jr. of Baton Rouge.
“We responded to the area south, I-110 and Chippewa regarding a motor vehicle accident,” said Coppola.
He said one person who was injured was taken to a local hospital.
“We learned that there was a motor vehicle that had actually been turned over and engulfed in flames,” Coppola described.
Investigators believe the Silverado driver tried to change lanes when it collided with another vehicle. The Silverado lost control, striking a concrete guardrail. According to police, that other vehicle kept going.
“Through the course of the investigation, it was learned that this is actually the cause of a hit and run. So we don’t have a description of a hit and run vehicle just yet,” he explained.
BRPD said they are calling on the community to help provide some information. Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Traffic Homicide Division at 225-389-7819 or Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.
