BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) — Homeowners rebuilding after Hurricane Ida can get advice on how to make their homes safer and stronger from experts. They can answer questions about flood insurance, clean up and ways to reduce risks from future storms.
Hazard Mitigation Specialist Edward Trimble said that proper preparedness will save homeowners time and money.
“This keeps happening, you keep having the same problems, it’s time to get that flood insurance, it’s time check your homeowners insurance policy,” said Trimble.
According to FEMA experts, mitigation can be as easy as reassessing items you already have in your home.
“Metal doors and hardwood doors if you’ve flooded, as far as wind damage, you want a good roof, you don’t want wafer board you want plywood, you don’t want to staple anything down, you want to nail it,” said Trimble.
While the deadline for federal aid is fast approaching, specialists hope people take the necessary steps to reduce risks from future disasters. Mitigation specialists will be on hand to answer questions about rebuilding and protecting their homes. Below is the list of participating stores:
