Flood threat continues; Finally drying out this weekend

Local News

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect through Friday with an additional 1-2″ of rain expected. Locally, higher amounts are possible, but all need to prepare for potential flash flooding issues. You can view river observations and river forecasts here or here.

Coastal Flood Warnings and Coastal Flood Advisories are in place through 1 a.m. Saturday. Inundation will be around 1-3′ during high tide. Strong easterly wind will cause this for areas near Lake Maurepas and Ponchartrain along with near-coastal zones. Backwater flooding may become an issue.

Friday and the weekend: We finally start to dry out after some storms on Friday, but we likely won’t be totally dry until the weekend once a stout ridge of high pressure builds to our east and over the region.

Make sure to stay weather aware in the coming days. Please practice flood safety. Have a game plan.
