BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A former Istrouma High School teacher and coach was arraigned Wednesday, Oct. 11 on two counts of prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and student.

Johnnie Butler, 42, was arrested May 11 on charges including one count of third-degree rape and one count of prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and student.

According to arrest documents, Butler, “who was an educator, assigned, employed or working at the time of the offense, engaged in sexual intercourse with a student or committed lewd or lascivious acts upon or in the presence of the student.”

Investigators said that the student was older than 17 and younger than 21. The student told detectives that Butler had been in communication for two weeks but noted she had known Butler for more than a year.

Butler was terminated after the school conducted an investigation.
