BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The local police department will be hosting free women’s self-defense classes starting next Monday.
Classes will be held at the Baton Rouge Police Department Training Academy (9000 Airline Highway) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on May 16, May 18, May 23, and May 25.
Women 13-years-old and older are welcome to attend. The police department said the course covers data on violence against women, how to reduce the risk of becoming a victim, defensive striking, different types of defenses and group escapes.
BRPD says attendees should wear comfortable clothing for physical activity and participants must attend all four sessions to receive a certification.
On Friday, May 13, BRPD’s Chief Murphy Paul met with White House officials to discuss public safety investments. Those investments include updated police vehicles, gun violence reduction strategies, and increased community policing and technology investments.
