BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — As the school year comes to a close, students across the Greater Baton Rouge area may begin receiving free ‘grab and go’ meal boxes starting June 1.

The meal box program is an effort to help low-income students during the summer months who are not receiving free or reduced-price school meals.

There are various sites throughout the area. Families should determine which site is the most convenient and plan to pick up boxes weekly, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., during the month of June.

At least one child must be present in order to receive a meal package. If additional meal packages are needed, the parent/guardian must print and complete the Parent Pickup Form and bring it with them to the meal distribution site. Forms will also be available at site locations.

Each box contains five breakfast options, five lunch options, and a gallon of milk.

Meals will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Drive-thru and walk-up services will be provided at all sites. For walk-up services, social distancing is encouraged.

The summer meals program is made possible through the Diocese of Baton Rouge, Child Nutrition Program.
