BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) — LSU and Southern will face off in Death Valley for the first time on Saturday, and while it’s still early, fans are already projecting the turnout.

“I’m gonna give them a touchdown,” said LSU student Shane Jackson.

“I’ll give them a field goal,” said LSU student Kennedi Pankey.

“After seeing last weekend’s game, I don’t know, think I may have a chance here,” said Southern fan Denise Robinson.

LSU fans have been preparing for this day for weeks now, and with a big game comes big preparations.

“Left at 4 o’clock this morning so I could beat the traffic and get here,” said LSU fan Kathy Brown.

Loyal LSU fan Scott Cusimano never misses a game. A day before kick-off he’s already camped out. It’s an 11-hour commitment he makes every year from St. Louis, Missouri.

“I’ll drive down in the beginning of the season and then I’ll leave my RV at a friend’s house and fly back and forth every game and then drive it home at the end,” said Cusimano.

Cusimano’s not alone. Robinson says her family has been planning for this for over a month and there was no way she was missing it.

“History, it’s really history,” said Robinson. “As a lil girl, we would be down in front of the stage dancing with the Dancing Dolls, so Southern is in the heart.”

When it comes to tailgating, students and fans say there is no wrong way, it’s an experience everyone should have.

No matter the outcome of the final score everyone can agree this is a historical game for the city of Baton Rouge and the community.
