An accident late Monday night turned fatal after two vehicles collided on LA Hwy 42 in Ascension Parish.
The Louisiana State Police said, “the crash took the life of 30-year-old Daniel Cox of Prairieville” on Monday, February 18.
The investigation into the fatal crash started a little before 11:30 p.m.
Greg Rivere, 28, of Gonzales was driving east on LA Hwy 42 and Daniel Cox was traveling west on the same road.
The crash occurred when Rivere’s 2008 Dodge Dakota pickup truck crossed into Cox’s lane and hit his 2014 Nissan Versa.
The collision was head-on and the driver of the 2014 Nissan Versa was wearing a seat belt.
Despite wearing a seat belt, “Cox sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash,” according to the Louisiana State Police.
Routine toxicology samples were taken from both individuals and the Louisiana State Police believe impairment played a part in this crash.
LSP said, “impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash on the part of Rivere.”
Both Rivere and a passenger in his 2008 Dodge Dakota were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Rivere and his passenger were sent to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.
According to the Louisiana State Police, Rivere sustained minor injuries and Rivere’s passenger suffered “moderate injuries.”
Rivere is currently in the Ascension Parish Detention Center facing these charges:
- LRS 14:32.1 Vehicular Homicide
