Gov. Edwards could release a new mandate by May

Local News

A shift in the number of Covid-19 related illnesses could bring the state closer to the norm we once knew.

“We’ve done a herculean job with turning around what was the fastest growth rate in the world.”

Wednesday, Governor John Bel Edwards announced, a new mandate could soon be on the way, relaxing some of the current orders in place.

“As we transition into may and obviously we’re going to have to put out additional proclamation regarding the mitigation measure that are going to remain in effect those that will be loosen and how.”

The possibility of relaxed orders comes on the heels of data showing the number of people being treated for the virus is down.

“The number of hospitalization and vent usage is actually better. So, overall we believe we are moving in a much better direction.”

He said, as they look to normalize the state, safety and balance are essential.

“Try to reopen the economy while balancing the need to protect public safety and health, then obviously we’re going to be looking at some new measure.”
