BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Governor John Bel Edwards updated the public on the state’s response to COVID-19 and potential upcoming winter weather.

On Thursday, Louisiana Department of Health reported over 14K new COVID-19 cases for the state, the same week Louisiana reached 1 million total COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

Reinfections are included in the overall COVID-19 daily count.

“The amount of reinfections we have seen during the omicron surge is 6 times than what we saw in the delta surge,” said Dr. Kanter.

Dr. Kanter says that receiving a COVID-19 booster shot is added protection to help fight against the omicron variant.

Gov. Edwards urges all Louisianans to stay alert and be careful when out driving on tonight and early Friday morning.

“Bridges freezes first,” said Gov. Edwards. DOTD will be out monitoring areas and updating on closures.
