Gov’t Taco has installed its key Kitchen Cabinet leaders as the restaurant preps for a series of pop-up events leading up to its inauguration at White Star Market, projected to open by the end of the summer.
Fresh off of being named Judges’ Choice for Land Animal at the Gourmet in the Garden competition, which supports the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens and the not-for-profit Louisiana Culinary Institute Foundation, Gov’t Taco has installed two up-and-coming culinary talents as its leaders. Gov’t Taco is the first restaurant concept from culinary media personality Jay Ducote.
Gov’t Taco will be helmed by Commander in Chef Aimee Tortorich, who serves as the restaurant’s executive chef, and Majority Whip Therese Schneider, who serves as its general manager.
Gov’t Taco Founding Father Jay Ducote said, “Aimee and Therese are seasoned culinary vets with strong records in the arenas of taste, flavor and creativity. I’m confident that under their leadership, Gov’t Taco will cut through the taco bureaucracy to deliver delicious gourmet tacos that highlight local ingredients and flavors.”
Aimee Tortorich, Commander in Chef, is a Navy Veteran and Louisiana Culinary Institute graduate, grew up shucking corn husks in her family’s kitchen and has grown into a true culinary talent. She has experience as a restaurant chef, catering chef and private chef and now she’s Commander in Chef. She loves sharing food and good vibes with everyone she meets and loves her pup Monty.
Therese Schneider, Majority Whip, was born in Baton Rouge and raised in Alexandria. Schneider grew up in a home surrounded by food. Laying down roots in mid city Baton Rouge, her love of culinary culture has grown through her years of restaurant experience. From keeping the House in line to inventing new dishes, she can do it all. When she’s not busy being the Majority Whip of Gov’t Taco, you can find her checking her blueberry bushes with a glass of wine in hand.
