BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)- At Woman’s Hospital, three sisters and a daughter/niece work under the same roof sharing the same passion for nursing.
Kim Edwards has been at the hospital for 34 years. She applied for the job after watching her sisters do what they love for years.
“My sister worked here so I said, let me give that a try. They had an opening and they hired me and six weeks after I had my first child, I came to work here and haven’t looked back since,” she said.
The women work in separate departments but they have created memorable moments working at the same hospital.
“We had the privilege of going in the deliveries of each other when we had our babies or you know, just the Woman’s Hospital feel when you know one of your sisters is having a baby or a family member and we’re all sitting in the waiting area and the you know. That is one of my biggest memories and being able to be a little closer than most people are because we do work here,” said Edwards.
The youngest nurse, Elizabeth, is the daughter/niece of the three women. Elizabeth started her college career as a business major, but switched to nursing after witnessing her family’s love for the field.
“They’re helpers and healers in everything they do” said Elizabeth.
Her mother, Kristy has been at the hospital for 34 years.
“Sometimes we will have the same patient and it’s kinda neat because she will bring the patient into the OR and help us get started. I kinda watch her and tell everyone ‘that’s my daughter'” said Kristy.
The women believe working at the same hospital brings them closer together as a family.
“Each of us is a very good nurse for our specialty,” said Kahne. “We feel appreciated and valued.”
