Healthy Living: Challenge your core with this fun, floating exercise at GymFit

BATON ROUGE, LA (BRPROUD) – Take your balance to a new level with a fun, floating exercise class available now at GymFit. Carly Laing explains the benefits of the new class in this week’s Healthy Living.

As temperatures heat up, GymFit is helping you cool down with a new workout class.

“Expect to get wet. You’re probably going to be using muscles you’ve never used,” said Hanson.

We’re talking about GymFit Float. It’s a yoga paddleboard class that’s perfect for summer.

“This time of year when it’s so hot, a class like this is a relief because you get to be in the water, and you can be wet and you’re still getting a good exercise class,” said Brandi Hanson.

A class that instructor Brandi Hanson said will challenge your core.

“You have to use a lot of core. You have to have a lot of balance to stay on these and to stay in positions and to transition position to position. In doing so, you’re still going to gain your strength, your flexibility. All the benefits you would get off a floating mat you’re going to get, but I feel like it’s amped up,” said Hanson.

It’s also good practice for mindfulness.

“You really have to be focused on aligning your joints and it’s going to be the small details. Where am I placing my hand, where am I placing my foot? What do I need to counterbalance so that I don’t fall in the water? You’re constantly having to keep your mind on what is happening with the body,” said Hanson.

Hanson said it’s a fun way to take an ordinary workout routine to the next level.

“It gets you out of your box, gets you out of your comfort zone. It gets you to feel like a kid again a little bit too. I feel like as I get older I want to keep pushing myself and try new things and want to have things that are more adventurous and interesting,” said Hanson.
