High blood pressure is a risk factor for heart disease.
Dr. Kris Lindsay with the Cardiovascular Institute of the South said all adults should get your blood pressure checked once a year at the regular checkup.
He said recommended blood pressure numbers changed at the end of last year. Normal blood pressure is anything less than 120/80, borderline is above 120/80, stage one is over 130/80 and stage two is 140/90.
While the first step is knowing where you stand, there are things you can do in your everyday life to lower blood pressure. For example, Lindsay recommends eating healthy, exercising regularly and avoiding alcohol. Those steps and more can help reduce your risk for heart disease.
