Spend an evening among the stars as Highland Road Park Observatory (HRPO), 13800 Highland Road, hosts its much anticipated annual International Astronomy Day celebration on Saturday, May 11, from 3-11 p.m.

Some of the guest favorites, like the Scope-on-a-Rope session and chemistry demonstrations are back this year, along with a dry slide and spacewalk and the  popular Adventure Quest.

There will be viewings (weather permitting) of the Sun, the Moon, Venus, Jupiter and Omega Centauri. IAD will also showcase multiple robots from local U.S. And First Robotics high school teams. Participants will have their choice of delicious food and drinks on site.

Raffle tickets are on sale now with prizes totaling over $700 including the grand prize of an Orion SkyQuest XT8 Classic Dobsonian Telescope. Drawings will be held during the event but you do not have to be present to win.

This event is free to the public and open to all ages.
