Homicide investigation leads to two arrests in police chase

Two arrests linked to a homicide were made Sunday afternoon when Abbeville police chased the suspects into Lafayette Police custody.

According to Lafayette Public Information officer Sergeant Vance Olivier, 21-year-old Kavan Broussard and 21-year-old Gene Williams III attempted to flee Abbeville in a stolen vehicle after police launched a homicide investigation.

As the suspects enter Lafayette, they struck another vehicle on both Ambassador Caffery and the intersection of Kaliste Saloom and Long Plantation Road.

The pursuit ended on foot as the police apprehended the two.

Williams III is charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, resisting an officer, possession of a stolen firearm, possession with the intent to distribute “crack cocaine”, possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance in a school zone, two counts of hit and run, possession of a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance, possession of Adderall and possession of stolen property. 

Broussard is charged with possession of a stolen firearm, and resisting an officer.
