LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – Cpl. Shawn Kelly, the officer shot on Thursday, May 11 in Denham Springs, is still in critical condition. Those interested in supporting him and his family have multiple ways to donate money or blood.
The Denham Springs Police Department will host a blood drive from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday, May 19 at Sidney Hutchinson Park in Walker. This will be the third blood drive hosted on behalf of Kelly.
A benefit to help pay for Kelly’s medical bills will take place starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 20 at the Old Albertson’s on Florida Boulevard and South Range Avenue. Jambalaya, pastalaya, BBQ chicken, corn and beans lunch plated will be sold for $10.
The benefit will also include a Jeep, motorcycle and car show.
Deep South Axe Throwing is offering free throws from 5 to 9 p.m. every Saturday and 2-7 p.m. every Sunday in May for police officers.
Sport-N-Center, a local team uniform shop, is selling “Kelly Motor 2” t-shirts until Sunday, May 21. Orders can be picked up on May 26.
Monetary donations can be made through Behind the Line. Checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 2490, Denham Springs, LA 70727. Electronic payments can be made using PayPal or Cash App. Behind the Line asks that donors put “DSPD” in the memo section.
100% of the proceeds from the benefit and Behind the Line will go toward Kelly’s family.
