ELMWOOD, La (BRPROUD) – Don’t like driving on the Huey P. Long Bridge? Here’s your chance to walk on it!

The 8th annual Huey P. Long Bridge Run is on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 8 a.m. The race begins on the East Bank side of the bridge and ends at the Ochsner Fitness Center – Harahan in Elmwood, La. The bridge will be closed to traffic during the race on Saturday, Oct. 16 to give a safe experience for runners.

“We are thrilled to bring back the Huey P. Long Bridge Run after almost 18 months and
to once again cross the mighty Mississippi River,” FRESHJUNKIE Racing Marketing Director Mike Wattigny said. “This race is truly a community event with a world-class backdrop.”

The Huey P. Long Bridge was the first Mississippi River span built in Louisiana. The Huey P. Long Bridge Run celebrates the 2013 expansion project that allowed three lanes of traffic to travel in both directions on the bridge.

“I hope you enjoy your run over the Huey P. Long Bridge, a historic structure that will take you across the picturesque Mississippi River to both the East and West banks of Jefferson Parish,” said Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng. “Sprawling over 60 miles from the shores of beautiful Lake Pontchartrain to the rolling waves of the Gulf of Mexico, we are Louisiana’s largest parish.”
