Hurricane debris removal in Ascension Parish to begin Sept. 6

ASCENSION PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – DRC Emergency Services is to begin Hurricane Ida debris removal on Monday, Sept. 6, according to Ascension Parish Government officials.

Officials ask residents to separate vegetation debris (branches, limbs, twigs, and leaves) from construction and demolition debris before placing them in the road and street rights-of-way for pick up.

Construction and demolition debris include:

  • Building materials
  • Carpet
  • Drywall
  • Furniture
  • Lumber
  • Mattresses
  • Plumbing

Ascension Parish Government said appliances and white goods (freezers, refrigerators, washers, and dryers) will not be picked up; owners must dispose of them individually. They also note that refrigerators and freezers must be emptied or they will not be accepted.

Ascension Parish residents ONLY (ID with address required) can dispose of their white goods by dropping them off at the Ascension Parish Recycling Center, located at 42077 Churchpoint Road in Gonzales.

Operating hours:

  • Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
