BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A service was held for the passing of three-year-old Devin Page Jr. who was killed in a drive-by shooting while sound asleep in his home on April 12.
Family and community members gathered for a balloon release and a celebration of life service to honor the three-year-old.
The memorial service and balloon release was held at Morning Star Baptist Church.
Green, blue, and Paw Patrol balloons were released because those were his favorite colors and his favorite show.
The service was not just a celebration but brought awareness to gun violence in the area.
Cathy Toliver, Page’s grandmother, screamed into the crowd advocating for the end of gun violence for her grandchild and hopefully save other children’s lives.
“I am angry, I am furious,” Toliver said.
Tye Toliver, Page’s mother, told the crowd about her son as a person. She said that her son was just learning to speak Spanish before his life was taken.
An early Thanksgiving will be held for children who have been involved in a situation involving gun violence.
