IDEA Public Schools opening their doors to 1,000 students Wednesday

BATON ROUGE, La. (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - Over 1,000 students and 100 plus employees are walking through the doors of two IDEA schools in Baton Rouge on Wednesday morning.

According to IDEA Baton Rouge, the two schools are the "IDEA Bridge Academy and College Prep in North Baton Rouge, and IDEA Innovation Academy and College Prep in South Baton Rouge."

The 2018-2019 school year marks 18 years for IDEA Public Schools and the first year for the network in Baton Rouge.

IDEA is a network of tuition-free, K-12 public charter schools, currently serving students and families in Texas and Baton Rouge.

The IDEA Bridge Academy is welcoming students for Kindergarten through 3rd grade and 6th grade and the IDEA Innovation Academy is welcoming kids for Kindergarten through 2nd grade and 6th grade.

The goal for both schools is to eventually serve Kindergarten through 12th grade.

“We are excited to finally have our IDEA schools in Baton Rouge open,” said Kenneth Campbell, executive director of IDEA Southern Louisiana. “We look forward to serving and supporting the children of Baton Rouge this school year and partnering with families and community members as we set students on the right path, together. Our top priority is providing a high-quality education to Baton Rouge students as they prepare for college and life.”
