Mandatory emergency evacuation for Bayou Pigeon, Bayou Sorrel residents

Local News

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD)- An emergency evacuation has been issued for residents in Bayou Sorrel and Bayou Pigeon due to an aqua-dam break.

UPDATE: Things are looking a lot better in the area.

Residents of White Castle, Bayou Pigeon and Plaquemine worked all day to help put down sandbags.

The sandbags helped hold off the water until concrete barriers could be put in place. After the concrete barriers we put down, there was a drastic difference and things improved quite a bit.

Resident Karen Strickland said, “We’ve been working for five days now, helping everybody. You would help with this one and wouldn’t worry about your home and then two days later, you’re sandbagging your home. I’ve lived here my whole life and we have never had water this high. Never.”

Evacuees in the area were taken to the Plaquemine Civic Center. We we will keep you updated with the latest.

The Iberville Parish Council says all residents should evacuate to:
