BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome says an increase in COVID-19 has been found in local wastewater.

Read Mayor Broome’s statement below:

“We are seeing a recent increase of COVID-19 in East Baton Rouge Parish wastewater, in addition to increased cases, percent positivity, and emergency department visits for COVID-19 like illness.

We are monitoring the situation and working closely with both the Louisiana Department of Health and local healthcare organizations and providers, as we have done for the past two years. This is a good time for individuals to get vaccinated and boosted if eligible.

We encourage citizens to take advantage of our free COVID-19 testing and vaccine site located at the Mall of Louisiana and take extra measures for vulnerable or immunocompromised loved ones, wear a mask in indoor settings if you are at high risk, and stay home and get tested if you are sick.”
