ASSUMPTION PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — A corrections officer resigned Thursday following an Assumption Parish inmate’s escape from jail earlier this week.
The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office said 19-year-old Roller Avila of Donaldsonville escaped on Tuesday evening by scaling security measures. Avila was recently arrested along with several other suspects in connection to a Sept. 29 armed robbery at a video poker venue called Cane Row Casino.
He was captured Thursday morning on the west bank of Jefferson Parish after detectives tracked him to the Gretna area late Wednesday night, the sheriff’s office said. Detectives worked with Jefferson Parish authorities to arrest Avila, who was at a Gretna apartment.
Sheriff Leland Falcon said one corrections officer resigned Thursday “in lieu of termination” after an internal investigation. The employee’s name was not released pending the investigation.
Avila is currently in custody at the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Correction Complex. He will be transported to Assumption Parish to face additional charges.
