WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — Drivers are being warned by the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development (DOTD) of an upcoming traffic switch on the Intracoastal Bridge.
Southbound LA-1 south of the bridge will have a traffic switch onto a new diversion road starting on the night of Friday, Nov. 11, according to DOTD. Crews will be constructing drainage structures and a new roadway.
DOTD said there will be two lanes in each direction open in the traffic switch.
“Motorists traveling southbound will be shifted a lane to the left after crossing the Intracoastal Bridge,” said DOTD in a news release. “This traffic switch will end at the intersection of Sun Plus Pkwy., at which time, motorists will be shifted back onto the existing roadway. This traffic switch is necessary in order to move traffic from the work area so crews can construct the drainage structures and the new road for the new Southbound LA 1 Bridge.”
This traffic switch will be in effect until early 2023, according to DOTD.
State transportation officials said that the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2023.
Officials remind drivers to be careful while traveling through construction sites.
