ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WDSU) — An inmate in the St. Tammany Parish Jail was found unresponsive by deputies Thursday after jail officials say the inmate apparently hanged himself in his cell.
The inmate was found hanging at approximately 11:30 p.m. in the isolation cell where he was being held, according to a news release issued by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.
A news release issued by the sheriff said jail staff removed the ligature from the inmate’s neck, immediately began CPR and contacted medical personnel.
Deputies continued life-saving measures until an ambulance arrived, according to the sheriff.
The sheriff said the inmate, who had a pulse, was transported to an area hospital, where he died Friday.
