ERWINVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) — A 12-member jury has found an 18-year-old guilty of second-degree murder for a shooting outside a local bar in Erwinville last year.

According to District Attorney Tony Clayton, Ronald Campbell, 18, of Jarreau was found guilty in the shooting death of 21-year-old Trey Allen. District Judge Tonya Lurry set Campbell’s sentencing for Nov. 21, but second-degree murder convictions are worth a mandatory life sentence.

The jury was able to reach a unanimous decision after an hour of studying the case, according to an official press release.

Officials say Allen was attempting to break up a fight outside the Raxx Bar around 1:30 a.m. on September 18, 2021, when the shooting occurred.

“This is another case in which gun violence ended a life and cost a young person his life, and has sadly impacted many families,” said Clayton. “We will not tolerate it. We will prosecute these cases to the full extent of the law. I am telling the young people to put the guns down. You will be arrested, you will be prosecuted fully, and you will go to jail.”
