BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Karnival Krewe de Louisiane hosted its largest fundraiser of the year, giving its funds to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center to help fund cancer research.
The Karnival Krewe de Louisiane (KKDL), also known as ‘A Party with a Purpose,’ held its annual royal coronation and auction.
The event included the 2022-2023 royal coronation of crowning the king and queen. It also included an introduction to this year’s Debutante. The fundraiser included several activities as well. Those activities included Anton’s Fine Jewelry’s $4,000 Shopping Spree raffle, silent and live auctions, games, and dinner and cocktails.
“It just enables us to support our mission of keeping our funds locally,” said Ashley Munn, president of Karnival Krewe de Louisiane.
Keeping the funds locally within the Baton Rouge area allows Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center to continue cancer research to potentially save lives.
King Thad Rispone lost his mother back in 2005 due to cancer.
“Cancer is going to touch every one of our lives at some point,” he said. “Sometimes in a very profound way.”
Last year, it was recorded that the KKDL made more than $4.4 million at the last year’s coronation — all donated to Mary Bird Perkins.
