BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — “225GIVES Day” 24-hour give-a-thon kicks off and local nonprofits are gearing up for what’s anticipated to be the biggest giving day of the year.

The Kids’ Orchestra is one of 200+ nonprofits in need of your help. Advisory board member Kelly Hurtado said any gift helps.

“This money is going to help kids that can’t afford the tuition. It’s also going to help us pay the teachers,” said Hurtado.

Through 225GIVES, their mission is to get funds that will help meet their needs and give children the gift of music and more.

“We want them to get their creative juices flowing. We want them to socially and emotionally engage and we believe music education does all of that for children,” said Hurtado.

Early giving started November 15th, but now it’s time for the 24-hour give-a-thon.

225GIVES started in 2020 during the pandemic at a time when many were out of work. Still, people found ways to give more than $2.7 million dollars.

“The pandemic is still causing issues for our nonprofits and raising money. We’ve had unbelievable natural disasters again this year across our region and state. It has not been easier for these groups, but we hope tomorrow makes it a little bit easier for them,” said Trility Partners adviser Ethan Bush.

No matter what organization you decide on Hurtado said they all are thankful to receive the gift of giving.

“It’s huge, it’s tremendous. We should be so proud of ourselves as a community for getting together and contributing to these so many worthy nonprofits,” said Hurtado.
