Would you like to hear talented young musicians from various local schools perform this month?

The Kids’ Orchestra is holding their Spring 2018 Neighborhood Concert Series at various locations in the month of May.

The Kids’ Orchestra is made up of young people from 24 East Baton Rouge Parish schools.

The concerts are designed to give students an opportunity to show the progress they made during the semester.

Jody Hanet, Executive Director of Kids’ Orchestra said. “There’s a big correlation between higher brain function and those who study music. We’re equipping them for the future by teaching them to play an instrument. We’re not trying to create 800 professional musicians, we’re trying to create great citizens.”

The neighborhood concert series schedule is provided below:

  • May 8 Dufrocq Elementary
  • May 9 LaSalle Elementary
  • May 10 Ryan Elementary
  • May 12 McKinley Middle Magnet School (Honors)*
  • May 14 Independence Park Theatre (Kids’ Choir)**
  • May 14 Claiborne Elementary
  • May 16 Capitol Elementary

*Honors Program performance begins at 4 p.m.

**Kids’ Choir performance begins at 6 p.m.

The Baton Rouge-based Kids’ Orchestra is a privately-funded nonprofit that provides East Baton Rouge Parish students the chance to learn and perform music.
