La. Office of Public Health now testing for coronavirus

Local News

As the coronavirus continues impact those nationwide, no cases have been confirmed in Louisiana, but there is a lab where cases can be tested.

This will be the state’s second test for the virus.

The state health lab first tested abilities to detect the coronavirus about two weeks ago, but the test was faulty and had to send it back to the CDC.

There were no concerns when sending the test back because there was no backlog.

The office of public health will be handling tests across the state and preliminary results will be send to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.

Louisiana is one of several states able to test for the virus.

Governor Edwards spoke during a press club meeting on Monday about the state’s preparations and he believes it’s a matter of when and not if the virus will make its way to Louisiana.

Edwards also wants to urge residents to get any information from the state and the CDC and not from social media.
