BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)– LA Wallet recently rolled out their new digital COVID-19 vaccination card feature.
In a recent press conference, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced the launch of this new feature.
Governor John Bel Edwards (D) said, “It will allow you to access your COVID-19 vaccination record if you choose to do so. LA wallet is Louisiana’s license app and it’s optional and free.”
Many expressed the importance of data privacy and Calvin Fabre the President of ENVOC said his app accomplishes just that.
Fabre said, “It’s trustworthy because of where it comes from and that is, the Louisiana Department of Health. This fights a lot of fraud out there of people printing vaccination cards and losing vaccination cards.”
He said he used 4 principles when it comes to this new feature: That it’s optional, they get nothing extra put on the device, no copies will be made, and it is for single use only.
He added, “The resident is in complete control of adding or removing the status from their device.”
Gonzales State Representative Kathy Edmonston (R) who has bills in the legislature regarding vaccinations and privacy said she hopes this stays optional.
Edmonston said, “We think optional is great, what we don’t want or what the people of this state have expressed to me is that we don’t want anything mandated.”
Or that easier access to this record will cause vaccination discrimination.
She said, “We have a lot of divisive issues in our country. I just don’t want this to become another situation where it divides us.”
LA Wallet provides the COVID-19 vaccine verification feature as an option to residents who would like to participate, having control over their own information and privacy.
”Well it’s up to the citizens to use, again that single use principle of where they share that vaccination status. It is not mandated anywhere yet. This is just purely a way for residents to have a reliable and trustworthy copy of their vaccination status,” said Fabre.
The LA Wallet COVID-19 vaccination verification is approved by the state for use.
