LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. (WDSU) — Lafourche Parish government officials announced Thursday that all Mardi Gras parades in the parish were canceled for 2021.
The decision was made as coronavirus cases surge statewide.
Parish President Archie Chaisson said the parish remains committed to the health of its residents.
“After much consideration and consultation with local officials and krewes, we have decided to collectively cancel Mardi Gras parades parishwide at this time,” announced Chaisson.
“The patience and support of our residents and business community when these difficult decisions have to be made does not go unnoticed. With the new year upon us, we must remain diligent in order to put this pandemic behind us as soon as possible to move forward, together.”
