LAPLACE, La. (BRPROUD) — Authorities arrested a LaPlace man on rape and battery charges following an investigation into alleged sexual abuse of a young female.

On Jan. 6, Kerry Lamont Jones, 40, of LaPlace was arrested by St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office (SJSO) following an investigation that began in December. Detectives began their investigation on Dec. 26 after receiving a complaint accusing Jones of inappropriate sexual content with a female juvenile.

Jones was reported missing on Dec. 28 by family members, according to SJSO. He was later located by Hancock County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 6. He was transported back into St. John the Baptist Parish and confessed his crimes to authorities.

Jones faces charges of simple rape, sexual battery and first-degree rape. His bond has been set to $145,000.
