ST. MARTIN PARISH, La (BRPROUD) — A 26-year-old woman is behind bars after allegedly stabbing a St. Martin Parish deptuy on Wednesday.
According to St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, they received a call regarding a ‘suspicious person’ knocking on the door in the 2500 block of Catahoula Highway, to ask the homeowner for a firearm.
Deputies responded and located 26-year-old Ashley Burton of Las Vegas, Nevada, sitting inside of a vehicle with two small children. After leading deputies on a short foot pursuit, Burton was apprehended by officers. Burton pulled out a knife and stabbed the deputy.
The deputy was immediately transported to a local hospital and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Burton is charged with two counts of trespassing, one count of battery of a police officer, two counts of resisting an officer, one count simple escape, one count of attempted first degree murder of a police officer, one count of simple criminal damage to property, one count of illegal use of controlled dangerous substance in the presence of person under 17 years of age, and one count of possession with intent to distribute schedule 1.
She was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center and transported to the Iberia Parish Jail.
No bond has been set.
