Many across the country are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission including a local museum here in Baton Rouge.
Louisiana Art and Science Museum will host a day of celebration on Saturday, July 20th to commemorate the occasion.
Hands on activities and a film will be shown throughout the day teaching children and families the importance of the mission.
Apollo 11: First Steps Edition is a thrilling cinematic experience showcasing the real-life moments of the first lunar landing. With never-before-seen 70 mm footage and newly-discovered audio recordings, the filmmakers reconstruct the exhilarating final moments of preparation, lift off, landing, and return of this historic mission – one of humanity’s greatest achievements and the first to put a man on the moon.
Hands-on activities will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and special planetarium shows from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., including the recently-released Apollo 11: First Steps Edition. There will also be a display on the moon landing in science station and authentic lunar samples in the atrium.
