BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Early Friday morning, hundreds of people packed the Mall of Louisiana.
“We usually get everything done by now, but we are grabbing a few extra things,” said Tim Sanders, shopper.
For some, waiting till the last minute is tradition.
Sanders and his family spend Christmas Eve at the mall with his grandchildren every year.
“Every year we just take them to pick out their own bear for Christmas. We always do it on Christmas Eve,” said Sanders.
Dozens at the mall said Christmas Eve is the perfect time to get a photo with Santa.
“This is my granddaughter and it’s her first Christmas,” said the Calvalier family. “I haven’t seen them in years so it’s a blessing to be here.”
Some said there is a specific joy in holiday procrastination.
“Stuff happens to pop out and have last-minute deals,” said Chris Morris. “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.”
The Mall of Louisiana closes at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and closed all day on Christmas Day.
