LDH: 10th storm-related death confirmed

UPDATE: Louisiana Department of Health has confirmed another storm-related death. Orleans Parish coroner has confirmed the death of a 74-year-old male due to heat during an extensive power outage, bringing the count of storm-related deaths to 13.

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A tenth Hurricane Ida-related death has been confirmed by the Louisiana Department of Health.

A 59-year-old man died of carbon monoxide poisoning after running a generator inside his home, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish coroner.

LDH said carbon monoxide poisoning was one of the leading causes of storm-related deaths in 2020.
