NEW ORLEANS, La. (WDSU) — The Louisiana Department of Health confirmed Wednesday that it will no longer be tracking COVID-19 patients presumed recovered from the coronavirus in the state.
LDH released the following statement as to why it will no longer be supplying that data:
“LDH is no longer calculating and reporting presumed recovered. The measure was somewhat useful early on, but as the pandemic has continued and changed, we find it less so when we take into account those with long-term complications from a COVID infection and the potential for reinfections. We still report the number of cases, the number of hospitalizations, and the number of deaths for tracking and information purposes.”
Before LDH stopped tracking presumed recovered cases, nearly half a million people were considered presumed recovered from the virus in the state.
