This Sunday the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs honored Gold Star Families at a memorial dedication ceremony.
Governor Edwards attended today’s event and if you would like to see the event in its entirety, visit Gov. Edwards LDVA event.
“The purpose of the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument is to honor Gold Star Families, preserve the memory of the fallen and stand as a stark reminder that freedom is not free,” said LDVA Communications Director Alex Juan.
The Louisiana memorial is the first of its kind in the nation to be placed on state capitol grounds.
The ceremony was held on Sunday, September 30th from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Louisiana Veterans Memorial Park in Baton Rouge.
This event was free and open to the public.
Organizers said guests could expect a performance by the Victory Belles and thoughts from local Gold Star Families.
