LHC verifying applicants for rental assistance

Local News

BATON ROUGE La. (BR Proud News) – The first of the month is a time to get bills taken care of and still — some are wondering how they’ll pay their rent.

“I was told, I have to wait on a late notice from my landlord” said Samantha Jones.

Last week, the state exhausted $24,000,000 allocated to the rental assistance program, leaving 30,000 people on a waiting list.

Louisiana’s Housing Corporation’s Executive Director, Keith Cunningham said, “the program was suspended until additional resources could be placed into the program and then we would continue providing rental assistance as those resources allow.”

He confirmed, the department is currently working with landlords to get payments ready for those who met the application and verification process.

“What we have been able to do is communicate with the landlords who are in process and let them know the status and the standard” said Cunningham.
