BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana State Police and the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office (PPCSO) gave an update on a 7-month long investigation in the Pointe Coupee area that led to several narcotics arrests Friday morning.

Colonel Lamar Davis said LSP was alerted by the Point Coupee Sheriff’s Office regarding frequent drug activity in Pointe Coupee back in December.

“This was the largest drug bust in Pointe Coupee Parish history,” said Pointe Coupee Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux.

Officials launched an investigation on 43-year-old Elie Edwards, who allegedly sold heroin, methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, marijuana, and synthetic marijuana throughout the Pointe Coupee area.

On August 4, officials issued multiple search warrants and made several arrests with the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Drug Enforcement Administration, Louisiana National Guard, Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office, West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office, and New Roads Police Department.

Officials seized:

  • 2 semiautomatic handguns (1 stolen out of Pointe Coupee)
  • 1 AR-15 rifle
  • 18.6 pounds of Heroin
  • 1.2 pounds of cocaine
  • 1.2 pounds of methamphetamine
  • 4.4 pounds of marijuana
  • 25 grams of pressed pills
  • 1.4 pounds of synthetic marijuana

LSP says the seized narcotics amount has a street value of $600,000.

Officials arrested 12 people during this joint investigation.

Elie Edwards, 43, was arrested and charged with attempted and conspiracy- distribution of heroin, methamphetamine, marijuana/synthetic cannabinoids, cocaine, schedule IV (felony), distribution/possession with intent to distribute heroin, distribution/possession with intent to distribute schedule II CDS- methamphetamine (felony), carrying concealed weapon by a person convicted or certain felonies (felony).

David Hayes, 42, was arrested and charged with attempt and conspiracy-distribution or methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana/synthetic cannabinoids (felony), distribution/ possession with intent to distribute heroin (felony), prohibited acts- schedule II (felony), and prohibited acts-schedule IV (felony).

Shannon Labatut, 43, was arrested and charged with attempt and conspiracy-distribution of methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana/synthetic cannabinoids (felony), distribution/ possession with intent to distribute marijuana, or synthetic cannabinoids (felony), distribution/ possession with intent to distribute heroin (felony).

Jerlanda Foster, 31, was arrested and charged with attempt and conspiracy (felony).

Loretta Dobard, 53, was arrested and charged with attempt and conspiracy (felony), malfeasance in office.

Mary Victorian, 36, was arrested and charged with attempt and conspiracy (felony), transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.

Williams Tynes, 61, was arrested and charged with distribution/ possession with intent to distribute narcotic drugs listed in schedule I (felony), and prohibited acts-schedule IV, penalties (felony).

Bryan Francois, 32, was arrested and charged with attempt and conspiracy- distribution/ possession with intent to distribute schedule II CDS (felony).

Darrel Harris, 30, was arrested and charged with attempt and conspiracy- distribution/ possession with intent to distribute schedule I and schedule II (CDS).

Joshua Gustin, 41, was arrested and charged with attempt and conspiracy- distribution/possession with intent to distribute schedule I and schedule II.

Leighann Kirby, 34, was arrested and charged with attempt and conspiracy- prohibited acts- schedule II, and obstruction of justice,- evidence tampering.

Michael Edwards, 40, was arrested and charged with attempt and conspiracy to distribute of schedule II CDS.

Sheriff Thibodeaux says one of the arrests made in this drug bust was ‘possibly’ a former worker for the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office.

This is an ongoing investigation and officials are expecting more arrests.
