BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Gov. John Bel Edwards will hold a press conference to discuss Louisiana’s response to COVID-19 on Jan. 13.

Hospitals are beginning to fill up across the state and it is taking a toll on the healthcare workers.

On Wednesday, the Louisiana Department of Health reported 17,592 new COVID-19 cases in the state, breaking the single-day pandemic record since Friday, Jan. 7.

“This is not forever, one day we will get through this surge but we are not there yet,” said Gov. Edwards.

Gov. Edwards says he is not planning to make any changes to any mitigations at this time but he will continue to monitor hospitalizations and recommendations from the CDC.

The next COVID-19 briefing will be held on Jan. 20.
