ASCENSION PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment and members of the East Ascension Consolidated Gravity Drainage Board joined together on Wednesday to give an update on negotiations and the future of the drainage board.

After months of battling who will control drainage projects in Ascension Parish, the drainage board is allowing Cointment to remain as the drainage director.

The drainage board will hire a new employee to assist the board and council.

“I would still be over drainage, we would bring in a subject matter expert to look at specifics on hydrology,” said Cointment. “This person is really going to be really tasked to do, is not only looking at from an engineering or hydrology standpoint, but also better communication at the board meeting.”

This agreement comes six days after the drainage board sent a 60-day notice of termination to Cointment, removing him from the authority of maintenance, operation, and repairing efforts for parish drainage.

In June, the Parish Council voted to remove Cointment from the drainage projects board.

Councilwoman Teri Casso voted to remove Cointment from drainage operations. She now says the board is moving in the right direction.

“This individual as a liaison should have much more working knowledge and be able to help us to undersatnd the projects that are being recommended,” Casso said.

The new agreement can be viewed below:

The board will discuss legal issues regarding the June vote and the new agreement. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 11.
