DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (NBC 33/FOX 44)

It was a big day at Live Oak High Friday, as family, friends and volunteers gathered to cheer on more than 150 athletes there to compete in the Livingston Parish Special Olympics.

Organizers of the event say it’s the perfect payoff to a lot of hard work.

“They practice all year long for this and then when they get to come here and people are cheering them on and they get to show off what they do and take it to state,” says Jessica Bonura. “It’s amazing!”

The competitors involved got the chance to compete in several track and field events, from the long jump and shot put to foot races and everything in between.

Bonura said it was a very special event, thanks to the more than 400 volunteers who helped make it possible. View attached video for more details on all the fun!
