BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)–Livingston Parish leaders wanted to expand the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau board to help attract more visitors.
There are currently seven parish council appointees on the Conventions and Visitors’ Bureau board, but nine parish council members. Two members looked to even out these numbers.
Livingston Parish Council Member Garry ‘Frog’ Talbert (District 2) said, “There are some aspects of my district that I wanted more attention brought to, so representation on the Conventions Visitors’ Bureau will allow that to happen.”
Livingston Parish Council Member Maurice ‘Scooter’ Keen (District 3) said, “And we just find that as our parish is filling up more and more, we thought we needed representation on the board.
With the help of Representative Buddy Mincey Jr. they believed this will be possible.
Representative Buddy Mincey Jr. (R- District 71) said, “It was unanimously supported, I’ve also spoken to the head of tourism and he had no objections, so this should be a win for Livingston Parish.”
Some believe that this could potentially bring in more revenue from attractions in these areas such as Pards Aqua Park, Tiki Tubing, and more.
“Anybody that comes up here is going to buy gas, they are going to eat, stay in hotels, so it will be a big boost to all of Livingston Parish, ” said Keen.
Representative Mincey said, “We like people to come here and spend their money, but any of those tax revenue comes in, they support our local municipalities, school boards, or sheriffs, and so forth.”
As the parish’s population grows, more representation ensured that every voice was heard.
They hope to get this bill passed this year or next year when state legislative session takes place.
