Livingston Parish man killed in motorcycle crash

LIVINGSTON, La (BRPROUD) – Louisiana State Police investigated a crash that killed 50-year-old James Weatherford on Saturday, August 28.

In the investigation, LSP discovered that 21-year-old Cierra Bennett was driving westbound on U.S. Highway 190 in a 2015 Nissan Sentra as Weatherford was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 190 in a 2001 Harley Davidson.

The crash happened when Weatherford slowed to turn but Bennett did not stop and hit the rear end of the motorcycle. Weatherford was wearing a DOT certified helmet but was dead on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Louisiana State Police urge motorists to obey the speed limit, Traveling at a high speed gives little reaction time a driver has to react in an emergency. LSP also urge drivers to wear a seatbelt.
