Monday made the fifth consecutive day Livingston Parish did not report any new COVID-19 related deaths.
“To know that we haven’t lost anyone has just been a blessing,” Layton Ricks, Livingston Parish President said.
Ricks says this wouldn’t have been possible without the cooperation from residents and businesses.
“We’re following the social distancing guidelines and I think that made a difference,” Ricks said.
Following the first weekend of phase two more residents were out and about. Ricks says as long as everyone keeps following the rules the death toll should stay down.
“To say that I’m not concerned at all would not be correct,” Ricks said. “I mean obviously I am but I think we have to live.”
Dukes Seafood and Steakhouse in Denham Springs is doing their part to minimize the spread.
“We’ve got seven or eight sanitizing stations out for the customers and our employees, and we’re doing the distancing with the tables,” Duke Landry said.
Landry says every day is another step in the right direction.
“As the numbers go down it’s really encouraging to think maybe we’re on the other side of it,” Landry said.
Ricks says he can’t wait until everything is back to normal, but until then he’s urging everyone to be patient and to continue being good neighbors.
