LIVINGSTON, La. (BRPROUD) — A rape conviction for a woman in Livingston Parish has been thrown out and is expected to get a new trial.

In December of 2021, Melanie Curtin was convicted of aggravated rape and video voyeurism and sentenced to life in prison. She appealed the conviction and the court granted a new trial this week after finding issues with evidence.

Curtin is connected to the sex crimes case against former Livingston Parish sheriff’s deputy Dennis Perkins and his wife Cynthia. Dennis was sentenced to 100 years behind bars and Cynthia received a 41-year sentence.
