BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The First United Methodist Church will be celebrating its $5 million renovations in a dedication on Sunday, Sept. 26.

The renovations were originally completed in March 2020 but the COVID-19 pandemic postponed celebrations. In 2021, celebrations were once again postponed due to Hurricane Ida.

A new mahogany and gold leaf cross, Americans with Disabilities Act compliance improvements and a new pipe organ are among some of the newest renovations.

“Worship is at the very center of who we are as Christians. Through it we are gathered into God’s presence and then sent in love and service to the world,” said Senior Pastor, Rev. Brady Whitton. “It is our prayer that this newly renovated space will gather and send God’s people for generations to come.”
